This is a list that I am almost embarrassed to place on my site, as there are 1000001 others sites that include these particular items…

This is meant to be a conveniently brief and succinctly described list of essential software.  This is based only on consensus, regarding the venerability of the products.  While I have actually used a large number of these programs, I think that there is really no value I can add (so far) with regards to my personal experience in a review of each.
